Best Cold & Flu Season Remedies

Winter is here, and with it can come an onslaught of illness… or not. If we all take some simple (yet life-changing) steps, we can be on our way to a sickness free winter. Not just this year, but for every year to come.

Manage the stress in your life.

The symptoms of stress, such as fatigue, exhaustion, anxiety and irritability, are not as much of an issue when compared to the long-term, harmful effects of stress. The real problem is maintaining our body and mind’s natural ability to cope and adapt to that stress. It’s the difference between going home after a long, stressful day and deciding to withdraw, be irritable, and let the stress consume us, or, moving on, being positive, and adapting to the symptoms of stress.

If we can learn to manage our stress levels, it’s a remedy in itself. Our bodies will thank us for it, by fighting sickness more effectively.

Boost your immunity with supplements.

This piece goes hand in hand with managing stress. If our stress levels are high, our bodies are working overtime, which lowers our immunity boosting capabilities. Supplements can help fill the gaps in our diets.

Some great immune boosting supplements are: Bluebonnet Stress B-Complex, Buried Treasure Acute Cold & Flu, MegaFood Complex C, Host Defense MyCommunity, Host Defense Mycoshield Cinnamon Spray, and Immune Health Basics Beta Glucan. If you’re interested in purchasing any of these, you can find a link to them at the closing of this post.

Echinacea, garlic, ginger, & thyme.

These four herbs are powerful and get the job done. Although this relates to supplements, single herbs also produce a powerful effect for combating sickness.

Echinacea has long been known to boost immunity overall. By stimulating white blood cells, it increases immune cells’ ability to destroy those pesky, invading microbes.

Garlic is part of the onion family. It is antibacterial and antifungal. It can help reduce the frequency and intensity of colds, and is also great for your cardiovascular system. It may sound crazy, but try chopping up some fresh garlic and eating it. This is the most effective and powerful way to get rid of a cold or flu fast.

Ginger is known for its anti-inflammatory properties, but also supports digestion. A lot of our immunity starts in our gut, so when our digestion is on point, our immunity is further supported.

Thyme is great for colds. It is an expectorant, which makes coughing more productive, (it clears out your lungs faster). Time is great in either a tea or a hot bath. Simply breathing in the aroma will help clear things up.

Get outdoors more.

This one probably sounds weird, right? Who wants to go out in the frosty cold? People tend to get sick in the wintertime because they are indoors more often. Being closer to other people makes it easier to pass on viruses. If you’re already sick, however, I recommend staying indoors with your favorite hot beverage. Otherwise, getting outside, with lots of fresh air between you and other people is a great way to avoid a cold. So bundle up, get out there and enjoy the great outdoors!

A few years back, I would get sick at least twice a year. I think I was unaware that my immunity was deficient and I wasn’t careful about exposing myself to other sick people. Now, I follow these simple steps and I might get sick once a year. It’s rewarding to know you have a strong immune system to help you fight off sickness. Thanks for reading; I hope these tips help you in warding off illness!
