What are prebiotics?
You may have heard of PRObiotics. Probiotics are live bacteria found in yogurt, fermented vegetables, and some dietary supplements. These are the "good bacteria" that comprise our gut microbiome and are part of a healthy, fully-functioning digestive system.

Prebiotics are a class of starchy plant fibers that can’t be digested by the body. This is why some prebiotics are referred to as “resistant starch”. Prebiotics promote gut and overall health by encouraging the growth of “friendly” gut flora (such as bifidobacteria and lactobacilli).
Resistant starches, while they appear on a nutrition label to be carbodhydrates, act nothing like carbohydrates. They pass through the digestive system undigested (resistant to digestion) until they hit the large intestine and colon.
There, our probiotics or beneficial bacteria, ferment these prebiotics into the short chain fatty acids acetate, propionate, and butyrate. These fatty acids help maintain proper pH in the gut for optimal digestion and healthy metabolism. They also help regulate blood sugar, increase satiety, and discourage the growth of “unfriendly” bacteria.
The benefits go beyond gut health: prebiotics also increase the production of certain neurotransmitters. Increased butyrate levels from prebiotic fermentation stimulate the production of GABA in the brain. Prebiotics also feed the serotoninproducing bacteria in the gut, and serotonin converts to melatonin when darkness falls. The result is reduced anxiety, overall mental clarity, and deeper, more restorative sleep.

Naturally found in many different vegetables, InulinFOS consists of short and long chains of fructose molecules that stimulate the growth of beneficial flora in the gastrointestinal tract, supporting digestive health and reducing blood glucose response. Sometimes referred to as “mushroom sugar”, trehalose is a naturally occurring sugar found in mushrooms, seeds, algae, and some drought-enduring desert plants. Unlike sucrose (table sugar), trehalose is only about half as sweet, has a much lower glycemic index, and a slow digestion process. It’s added to PREBIOTIC+ because of its strong neuroprotective and health-promoting properties.
Also known as “true cinnamon”, ceylon cinnamon can help optimize carbohydrate metabolism, and relieve joint pain. It’s also a rich source of antioxidants; just 1 tsp. of ceylon cinnamon has more antioxidants than 8 oz. of pomegranate juice.
